‘Violations of the right to life, practices of torture and the judicial system’s inaction in the face of persistent impunity.’
This report presents the findings of the human rights monitoring carried out by ACAT-Burundi for the month of September 2026. During this period, our monitors documented 19 cases of serious violations, affecting 21 direct victims and 5 indirect victims, totaling 26 people across the country. It should be noted that these figures reflect only those incidents verified in accordance with our cross-checking protocol and may underrepresent the actual situation due to fear of reprisals and difficulties in accessing certain areas.
Analysis of the field data highlights three major trends this month:
